So, Saturday I had the great pleasure to photograph this cool guy named Carlos! We originally had planned to photograph in the early afternoon, hoping for some sunshine. As usual, it turned out to be a cloudy rainy day. However, instead of canceling, Carlos was cool enough to agree to an experimental night shoot.
We decided to meet up at the Detroit Institute of Arts which is located in Midtown on Woodward. The DIA is a renowned art museum in the city of Detroit. Now through Sunday, February 12th the DIA is featuring Rembrandt and the face of Jesus. Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus brings together for the first time many of Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn’s finest paintings, prints and drawings that portray Jesus and events described in the Bible. The exhibition of 64 works includes approximately 52 small, intimate paintings, prints and drawings by Rembrandt and his students that illustrate how Rembrandt broke from traditional 17th-century representations of Jesus. It seems pretty interesting!
On my way to the DIA I ran across some MAJOR traffic! It turns out there was an event called Noel Night happening downtown. I had never heard of this before but apparently it was the 39th annual event. I learned that the event is an “open house” for the cultural heart of Detroit when 60 venues like the Detroit Institute of Art open their doors free of charge and showcase over 120 performances. They closed Woodward from warren down. Luckily I found parking and was able to meet Carlos in front of the DIA.
We were able to find some great lighting at one of the museums on Woodward.
He looks like he could be in an ad for Armani!!
Till next time! Keep it Classy, kids.
